Mrs. Dorothy Mae Harper Harrison

May 30, 1928 - December 15, 2021

Dorothy Mae Harper Harrison passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at her residence in Richland. She was 93 years old. There will be a private family visitation on Friday, December 17th Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. A Graveside Service will be at 2:15 p.m. at Florence City Cemetery. Mrs. Harrison was born May 30, 1928 in Rankin County, MS to the late Orris and Willie Mae Harper. She grew up in the Coon Town area and attended Florence Schools. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Harrison, who preceded her in death. She loved her family, loved flowers, and loved fishing with her husband, sons, and grandsons. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Natchez Washington Baptist Church for may years. She drove a school bus early on but spent most of her life as a home maker who loved cooking delicious meals for her family. Dorothy and Jim lived together for 30 years at Eagle Lake. Following his passing, she lived there by herself for 8 years until the age of 89 when she moved back to Rankin County to live with her eldest son and daughter-in-law. At the age of 90, she was a remarkable lady who could transfer from bed and chair and take care of her own needs, even with one leg. It was only in the last 6 weeks that she was dependent on others. She was a strong, feisty woman who did not give up easily. Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her son, Dudley "Larry" Harrison and her brother, Donald Mahaffey. She is survived by her sons, James “Jimmy” Emmett Harrison, Jr. (Susan), James Ronald “Ronnie” Harrison (Judy), and Robert “Bob” Carol Harrison (Terri); daughter-in-law, Judy Harrison; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Harrison (Robin), Stephen Harrison (Shelley), Dabney Sliwowski (Thomas), Jason Harrison (Christy), Leah Ann Williams (Michael), Misty Morrison (Scott), Stacy Foote (Scooter), Heather Dunnaway, Jennifer, Tracy, and Robert Harrison; 15 grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Faye Lee and Ann Oakley (EO); sister-in-law, Sherry Mahaffee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
