Jimmie George McGarr, Jr., born on October 3, 1942, in Eupora, Mississippi, passed away on June 12, 2025, in Terry, Mississippi. He was born to George McGarr and Erline Pogue McGarr. He was a dedicated individual whose life exemplified service, community involvement, and a passion for learning.
Jimmie proudly served in the Air National Guard and the United States Military, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment to his country. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and held a Master's degree from Mississippi College, reflecting his dedication to personal and academic growth.
An active member of the County Line Baptist Church, Jimmie found joy in his faith and community. His spirit of fellowship and involvement left a lasting impression on those around him.
Outside of his professional and community endeavors, Jimmie was an enthusiast for metal detecting, a hobby that sparked joy and adventure, allowing him to explore both history and nature.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, L.W. Brown, and a sister, Betty Rose McGarr.
He is survived by his beloved spouse of 33 years, Patsy Campbell McGarr of Terry, along with brothers Larry (Julie) Brown, Hugh Brown, and Bruce (Vickie) Brown. He is also mourned by his sisters, Judith Brown (Jimmy) Isonhood and Kay Brown (Fred) Scrobot, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jimmie was a former Gideon, a role through which he contributed to the community, sharing his faith and supporting others in their spiritual journeys.
As we reflect on Jimmie’s life, we celebrate a man who lived with purpose, embraced his passions, and impacted the lives of those around him. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his kindness, service, and warm spirit.
