Mac L. Baker, Sr., affectionately known as "Big Mac," passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at the age of 88, due to a massive stroke, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, surrounded by his wife and children.

Born in 1936, in Morton, MS, Mac was the son of William C. Baker (a teacher) and Lillie L. Baker (a homemaker). He lost both parents to illness at age 8.5 months, and was raised by Nola Mae and Lindsey C. Long. He was fortunate to be raised by loving aunt Nola and uncle Lindsey, who had no children of their own. Mac credits Nola Long for instilling the teachings of Christ, love of and obedience to Jesus Christ.

He enjoyed a rich life, surrounded by love, family, and community. Mac graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.S. in Accounting, and furthered his education at Mississippi State University, earning a Master's in Business Management, and a Specialist Certification. His passion for education and service guided him to a 41-year teaching career at Harrison Central and Biloxi high schools, and later at Hinds Community College. Mac's commitment to education was further complemented by his role in founding the Hinds Community College DECA Club, and spearheading the development of the college's first credit union.

A faithful servant of God, Mac was an active member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon at First Baptist Church of Raymond, MS. His dedication extended beyond his community, engaging in mission work at home and abroad. He cherished sharing the teachings of Jesus, demonstrated through his work with the RBC Brotherhood and Royal Ambassadors as well as teaching Sunday school at Oakley Training School.

On February 12, 1960, Mac married the love of his life, Patty Hendry. Together, they nurtured a loving family, and he leaves behind behind their children Penny B. Vance (Michael, Sr.), Mac L. Baker, II (Alishia), and Thurston L. Baker (Tracy). Mac's legacy continues with his cherished grandchildren (Michael Vance, Jr., Erica N. Clay, Thurston L. Baker, II, Bethany Clarke, Haruko Baker, Mioko Baker, Justin Mac Baker, Brandon R. Baker, 10 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Mac's leisure pursuits included hunting, fishing, and supporting wildlife conservation as the first president of the Raymond Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was also a devoted fan of football, basketball, and golf.

A celebration of Mac's life and faith will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Raymond, MS, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. All who knew him are welcome to join in honoring Mac L. Baker, Sr.
