James Andrew Wilson, 54, walked peacefully through God’s gates on June 28, 2025. He was born on July 5, 1970, to Wilmer Doyle Wilson, Jr., and Elnora Marie Wilson.
James was an adventurous child who turned into an amazing man. He had no fear. He would jump off of a house when his brother dared him to; from there, he moved to jumping on moving trains for excitement at age eleven. There were no limits to what he would try.
His activities included helping others as a part of who he was. He handed out gifts to children, helped people fix cars, and loved babies. James was loyal to those he loved. He was kind, hardworking, hard-loving, and giving: he gave all of himself. He protected many from harm in his days working as a bouncer at multiple locations in the area. He was also a tow truck driver for thirty years and served with the American Red Cross and rode with the American Legion Riders. James knew Jesus as his Savior and now knows Him as his Lord.
James had many titles: he was a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Father and grandfather were his favorite roles, closely followed by brother and friend. He was a protector and loved big, especially his daughter Lexie and her family. The closeness they shared is indescribable. He thought his baby girl was the best and his son-in-law a close second. His grands had him wrapped. Papaw James had their heart as well. His nieces and nephews were his heart. Selflessness had a new meaning when it came to this wonderful man. Many called him loyal, giving, kind, loving, and compassionate. It is difficult to express all that he meant to so many people. To love him may not have been to love him to all, but he will never be forgotten. That is what legends are made of…until we meet again.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer Doyle Wilson, Jr. and Elnora Marie Wilson; and his grandparents, Wilmer Doyle Wilson, Sr., Mildren J. Hood Wilson, Virgil O. Emery, Sr., and Darlene O. Emery.
James is survived by his daughter, Alexis “Lexie” Robinson (Andra); his grandchildren, Peyton, Jaidyn, Adrianna, and Addison; his sister, Cynthia Smith (Dale); his brothers, Stephen Wilson (April) and Joey Moak (Nikki); and seven nieces, six nephews, four great nephews, eleven great nieces, and friends considered family too numerous to list.
From his daughter, Lexie: “Daddy, you weren't just a father, you were a guiding light, a source of strength, and a true inspiration. Your love will continue to guide us. Your kindness knew no bounds, and your generous spirit will be deeply missed. I love you, Daddy. Love, Lexie.”
A visitation for James will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. A chapel service will follow on Wednesday at the same location, and a graveside will then be held at Fellowship Church in Mendenhall, MS.
