Pat was born May 19, 1935, in Smith County, Mississippi and went home to be with Jesus on June 21, 2025. She was the daughter of H.L. ‘Vonny’ and Jewel Myers McLaurin. She had 4 sisters, Fran Bolton of TN, and her husband Wayne, Christine Salvaggio and her husband Tony of Baton Rouge, Evelyn Hinton and her husband Jim of Jackson, MS, and the youngest, Jean McLaurin of Jackson as well, and one brother. O.T. “Bud” McLaurin and his wife Cora of Newton, MS. A multitude of nieces and nephews in all four states.
Pat married Charles G. Upchurch Sr. in Jackson, MS in 1957. She was survived by her son Charles G. “Chuck” Upchurch Jr. and his wife Amy of Byram, step grandson Joshua M Lewis (Sanja) and four beautiful grandchildren Oliver, Owen, Sophie and Selene Lewis.
She loved a few special pup dogs also along the way!
She graduated Central High School in Jackson, MS in 1953, after attending school in Byram during late 1940’s. She retired from Mississippi Valley Gas and worked out of the Bailey Avenue warehouse in Jackson, where she had many friends, she kept long after retirement. She also worked briefly as a part time retiree after it had become Atmos Gas out of the West Capital office.
She loved to be creative, whether it was painting scenes on the fence in her yard, or just working in her yard. Working in her yard gave her both enjoyment and she was great at it, as evidenced by all the different species of plants thriving all the time. She also got great enjoyment and fulfillment spending time with the folks at Griffith Memorial Baptist Church on Terry Road in Jackson, MS where she had several close friends for many decades, that she loved dearly.
A very special “Thank you” to the employees and CNA’s of Edgewood of Byram, and the employees of Pax Hospice, for their grace and kindness during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL) which was a favorite of moms and where she got her beloved “Daisey Mae’ from.
