Ralph David Lundstrom Sr., 70, of Utica, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born on February 5, 1955, in Providence, RI. Ralph dedicated his life to service his community with compassion, love and understanding and be the best father and husband to his children and wife. He served with distinction for 28 years with the Jackson Police Department, including many years as on officer, sergeant and lieutenant and served proudly on the JPD SWAT team. He loved every one of his brothers in blue. Ralph earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including Officer of the month, and was often recognized in local newspapers for his exceptional work. He rose through the ranks to become a lieutenant before retiring in 2015. He has letters from citizens of Jackson that praised his concern and care no matter what the call was he was dispatched to. He received multiple letters from his chief on a job well done on multiple cases he worked.
Policing was not just Ralph’s profession — it was his calling. He passed that passion down to his only son, Ralph David Lundstrom Jr. (Davy) and proudly stood by his side when his only son graduated from the JPD Police Academy in 1999 with a huge smile on his face.
Outside of his career, Ralph enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a devoted fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, where his mother graduated college from. He had a huge heart and deep love for animals, a trait passed down from his late mother, Betty Lundstrom. He was known for his compassionate, spirit, which touched the lives of many — not only through his work but in every corner of his life. He was a father that made sure his children had a great up bringing and a lot of fun in between. He taught his children how to be strong and independent in life. He loved his wife unconditionally and always loved going to football games as rivals with Alabama and LSU. A house divided as many would say.
Ralph is proceeded in death by his mother Betty Jean Lundstrom. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Lundstrom; his children, Melissa Lundstrom (Lyndsey) of Brandon, Ms. David (Davy) Lundstrom Jr. of Florence, Ms. and Chrissy Lundstrom Stepp (Josh) of Brandon, Ms. His stepchildren, Joshua Speights (Jessica) of Madison, Ms. and Jenna Gardner of Pearl, Ms. also his father, Jim Lundstrom, and his siblings, Debbie Lundstrom (Richard), Johnny Lundstrom (Donna), and James Lundstrom (Sandra). He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Sommer, Hope, Brooklyn, Lexi, Chase, Mckenzie, Kaylee, and Presley His step grandchildren Addylynn, Lanie, Clifton, Toni and Betty. He also was a great-grandfather to ten beautiful great-grandchildren.
Ralph also leaves behind many lifelong friends and brothers in blue who were more like extended family. The bonds he built during his decades of service remained a treasured part of his life.
Though he took pride in his work, Ralph’s greatest joy was his family. His wife, children and grandchildren never had to question the love he had for them.
