Willie Merle Pigg, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2025, at her daughter's residence surrounded by family. She was born on May 14, 1934, in North Perry County, Alabama, and lived a life that was rich with love, faith, and cherished family memories.
Willie was deeply rooted in her Christian faith as a Nazarene and always attended church services alongside her daughters at their respective places of worship. This devotion to her faith was an essential aspect of her identity, influencing her actions and interactions throughout her life.
Her warm personality was reflected in the simple pleasures she embraced. Willie found joy in solving search-a-word puzzles and enjoyed watching her favorite show, Swamp People. She also relished her younger years spent fishing, having particularly enjoyed a memorable fishing trip on the river with her daughter a few years ago.
Willie is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Bernard and husband Hubert of Metcalf, GA, and Lisa Carraway and husband Ken of Bassfield, MS. Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren, Hubert Allen Bernard and wife Shantell, Joey Bernard and wife Sumer, Jonathan Goodman and wife Candace, and Christopher Goodman and wife Faith, step grandsons, David Peña and Chris PeñaAdditionally, her 20 great-grandchildren carry forth her spirit and love.
She is also survived by her siblings: Jeanette McHaney, Clodean Fluker, and Shirlyn Sheridian, along with her brother Brasker Latham.
Willie is preceded in death by her parents, William Lemuel and Ethel Montz Latham; her husband, James Faye Pigg, who passed away in 2011; her son, James Dennis Pigg, who left this world in 2017; and her siblings, Wilma Rutledge, Neladean Elliott, Natha Lee Duncan, Yvonne Young, and Lemuel Meredith "Sonny" Latham.
In honor of her life, visitation services will be held on August 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Glenwood Memorial Park in Richland, MS, starting at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
As we remember Willie Merle Pigg, we celebrate a life filled with love, cherished family moments, and unwavering faith. Her presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
