Wesley Eugene White passed away peacefully in his home on June 29, 2023, at the age of 62. Even though cancer took him away from this world too soon, his imprint of love and laughter on the people around him will last forever.
Born on May 28, 1961, to Viola Luree Wall and Floyd Wesley White in Jackson, MS, Wesley was the first to admit he caused a little trouble growing up. However, as he got older it was obvious his number one priority became providing for and spending time with his family (while also still causing a little light-hearted trouble, like constantly bugging his wife Charlene while she was trying to watch her shows). In addition, through his many years working in roofing and construction, he took pride in his labor, and his attention to detail combined with his personable nature made his customers always feel prioritized.
Wesley was the perfect blend of extremely picky yet ever curious, stubborn yet gracious, shy yet fond of company and connection. Once, at a burger restaurant he was told they were out of tomatoes, and he simply responded, “Well, I guess I ain’t eating then.” But he was also fascinated by the show, “How It’s Made,” and seemed to have never-ending questions about the world around him. He may have been “set in his ways” at times, but when he saw someone else in need, he was compelled to help no matter what the cost to him. Sometimes too shy to order for himself at restaurants, he also had too many friends and acquaintances to count. He loved many things: family, friends, the Saints, NASCAR, cartoons, singing on the back porch in the mornings and dancing in the kitchen in the evenings with Charlene, Kool-Aid, bonfires, hunting, his “collector’s items,” fishing with the grandkids, riding 4-wheelers, bartering, being a jokester, and chocolate. There were also many things he did not like: sitting still, bad drivers, wearing suits, strawberries, uncut grass, people who didn’t mind their own business, being bored, and having to say goodbye. He was a hard-working, loveable, strong-willed, big-hearted, hilariously quirky man who will never be forgotten.
Wesley is survived by his wife Charlene (who he often lovingly called “Mama”), his daughter Christina Melton and husband Dale Melton, stepdaughters, Jennifer Zandstra and husband PJ Zandstra, Katherine Bracken and partner Bret Carpenter, six grandchildren (Corbin, Jeremiah, Jr, Kara, Dominic, and August), his brother Calvin and wife Gayle, and his sister Charlotte.
