Vera Mae Vancil Mooney, affectionately known as "Mama Mooney" to all who were fortunate enough to know her, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 85 in Flowood, Mississippi. Born on October 31, 1939, in Herrin, Illinois, Vera was a beacon of love and kindness, cherished by everyone whose lives she touched.

Vera dedicated a significant part of her life to her career as the owner and operator of Malones Taffy alongside her beloved husband, Thomas Mike Mooney Sr. Together, they created a family business that flourished from 1960 until her retirement in 2004. Their passion for their craft led them to travel across many states, selling their delightful candy at various state and county fairs, creating lasting memories for countless patrons.

In addition to her successful business endeavors, Vera held a deep commitment to her community and deeply valued her service with the American Legion. She proudly served as the 1st Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary at American Legion Post 112  embodying the spirit of service and dedication that defined her life.

Vera's warm and generous personality endeared her to family and friends alike, and her presence will be profoundly missed. She is survived by her loving daughter, Gina Ingram and husband Thomas of Harrisville; her son, Thomas "Mike" Mooney Jr. and wife Lisa of Byram; and her cherished grandchildren, Cody Smith and wife Amelia, Thomas Mike Mooney III, Madelyn Michelle Mooney, Colten Walker Mooney, Ashley Ingram Kelley, Bubba Ingram and wife Daphne, Tim Ingram and wife Stacey, Tyler Ingram, Jordan Ingram, Haley Curtis and husband Chad, and Derk Wilbourn, along with numerous great-grandchildren. Vera also leaves behind her devoted sister, Joyce Miller, and brother, Robert Vancil, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Myrtle Vancil, her devoted husband, Thomas Mike Mooney Sr., and her sister, Marda Sue Ward.

A visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home Byram Location on September 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. The graveside service will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park South in Jackson.
