Tina R.
McDonald Rankin Chapman
April 17, 1964 – May 7, 2026
Tina R. McDonald Rankin Chapman entered the gates of Heaven at 9:30 a.m. on May 7, 2026, at Baptist Hospital after an 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on April 17, 1964, in McAlester, Oklahoma, where her parents, Gary and Linda McDonald, were stationed with the United States Marine Corps. From there, they moved to South Carolina before finally settling in Tennessee.
Tina was very close to her late grandparents, Leo and Cleta Coley, affectionately known as “Nana” and “GranGran,” who instilled in her the importance of trusting the Lord and saving money. She spent many days on their farm and joked throughout her life that her allergies were the result of Nana locking her in the broom closet whenever she misbehaved.
At the age of 18, Tina met her late husband, Richard Stevie “Steve” Rankin, in May 1982 on a blind date in Magee, MS. Her best friend had moved there, and Tina came to attend her high school graduation. Within a couple of weeks, they knew they were meant for each other and were married on July 2, 1982. On their first anniversary, Steve and Tina welcomed their only daughter, Heather Nicole Rankin White, on July 2, 1983.
They lived in Star, MS, until 1987 when they moved to Richland, where they joined First Baptist Church Richland and remained active members until Steve’s health began to decline. Tina later continued her membership there with Ricky, and together they remained members of First Baptist Church Richland.
Tina and Steve beat the odds, celebrating 28 years of marriage after knowing each other only six weeks before they were married. Their marriage remained strong until his passing on July 5, 2010, just three days after their 28th anniversary.
The Lord saw fit for Tina to remain a widow only a short time. He later blessed her with another loving and caring husband, stepfather to Heather, and Papaw to Tanner and Harper, Richard “Ricky” Joel Chapman, whom she married on November 12, 2013, along with two bonus daughters, Whitney Beard and Ashley Chapman.
Tina and Ricky shared a love for cooking and enjoyed spending time together in the kitchen and visiting the mountains. Tina also loved being “MiMi” with every ounce of her being, not just to her own grandchildren but to all of their friends. Even in the end, she made sure to attend as many of their events as possible.
She retired from Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance in May 2019 after 33 years of dedicated service. Throughout her career, her primary territory was North Carolina, where she formed many lifelong friendships with agents and their families.
Tina was strong in her faith and never hesitated to share it with others. She witnessed every opportunity she had and lived her life as an example of God’s love. She loved to play cards and also loved to knit, and everyone close to the family knew they would receive a handmade blanket once expecting a child.
Above all, Tina loved her family and cherished every moment spent with them. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and MiMi until her final breath. Tina was a devoted Christian who never met a stranger. She always carried a smile on her face, even in her final days when she did not feel like smiling but chose to anyway.
Throughout her cancer journey, Tina was an inspiration to so many. She never worried because she knew her Lord and Savior already had everything worked out. She will be remembered for her smile and words of encouragement felt by many.
Tina was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Stevie “Steve” Rankin; her brother, Stephen McDonald; great-grandparents Earl and Opal Jenkins; great-grandmother Mabel McDonald; great-grandmother Lillie Loden; grandparents Leo and Cleta Coley and James and Maxine McDonald; uncles William “Bill” Rayburn and Robert “Bobby” McDonald.
