Emblem

Thomas Alliston Lowther, known better as "Buddy", went home to be with our Savior on May 4th, 2024, at the age of 85. He was surrounded by long time family friends on the farm that he called home for most all his life. He is preceded in death by his father Berry Lowther, mother Sadie Vee Lowther, sister Sandra Vee Shows, wife Mildred Evelyn Lowther, and stepson James Moreland.

Buddy was born on St. Valentines Day, February 14th, 1939, to Berry and Sadie Vee Lowther at Baptist Hospital in Jackson Mississippi. As a young boy he grew up in Florence spending his days hunting squirrels, riding ponies, and using his goat Billy to pull his wagon to town to pick up Mrs. Sadie's grocery list. He came to know Jesus and was baptized on April 17th, 1949, at the age of ten. Later into his childhood, his family moved to his uncle's farm. There, Buddy helped Mr. Berry keep up the farm and milk around forty head of dairy cattle.

He excelled in all sports throughout school but claimed that baseball was his favorite. At age 19, he joined the Army National Guard where he earned a medal for rifle sharp shooting. After the Army, he began the lifelong profession of an iron worker where he tied endless amounts of steel to reinforce concrete slabs. Buddy also spent 1971-1973 as a coach for the Florence little league baseball team "The Red Socks" where he encouraged and touched the lives of many young men. Everyone that knew Buddy knew that he was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved his pack of beagle hunting dogs which he affectionately referred to as his "boys and girls". He met and married Mildred Evelyn Moreland on October 11th, 1979. The two enjoyed 38 years of marriage hunting, fishing, and gardening alongside each other on the same family farm that he grew up on.

As we remember and honor Buddy, let us remember that his life is to be celebrated and he spent his days doing what he loved with those that he loved and in his later years he made a habit of reading his bible every night before turning out his bedside lamp.
