Terril Morris

April 13, 1932 — March 5, 2024

Crystal Springs

Terril Wymon Morris, loving husband, dad, granddaddy, and great granddaddy, otherwise known to some as GG, died on March 5, 2024 at Copiah County Medical Center, Hazlehurst, Mississippi.

Born April 13, 1932, in Cordova, Alabama; Terril is a son of Viola and Manciel Morris. Manciel died when Terril was 10 years old. His mom raised seven children, Terril being the youngest. He went to Cordova High School. Although he lived in the depression era, he liked to dress nice. He was chosen as best dressed in his senior year. Even in later years, He was always dressed to impress.

After an honorable discharge from the Air National Guard, Terril found employment as a soda jerk at a drugstore in Cordova, Alabama. A regular customer one day offered him a job with the Illinois Central railroad. Accepting the job offer, he moved to Jackson Ms.

Riding in your car down Capitol Street was a “swell” thing to do back in the day. While cruising the streets with his two best friends, Alvie Smith, and Bobby Clark, they introduced Terril to a friend of theirs, Virginia Bates. He married Virginia September 8, 1956 and the rest is history.

Terril loved mowing and bush hogging his lawn. He enjoyed watching the beauty of spring bring all the azaleas alive with color.  He admired a pretty lawn.  Picking blueberries was also an exciting time of year. A bucket in one hand and a wagon handle in the other, he would pull a grandchild to Blueberry Hill.  This also brought him much happiness watching them eat more than what went into the bucket!

Terril loved all his family. Growing up, hearing our first and second names- Vickie Ann, Terri Lynn, Jeffrey Scott meant we were in trouble. Funny how that evolved for a term of endearment to all his grandchildren when he would call them their first and second names, Hunter Gann, Hillary Brooke, Shelby Victoria or Lauryn Alexandra and even the little guys- Jeffrey Scott, Brent Wymon, J Mack, John Colton!! They could do no wrong. And the great grandchildren brought him such joy. He would literally crawl in the floor to each child’s level and build domino houses with Laney, Meredith or Darby, marbles with Maddie, Ashlynn, or Zach or peepie with Bennett, Cooper or Wyatt.  He could not wait to do the same with Eleanor as he asked her progress daily.

Terril loved church. He taught Bible school many years. He was a deacon and served in the benevolence roll.  Once a man came in the doors of the church building  from a cold winter day asking if anyone had socks that he could have. Terril took off his argyle socks and gave to the man who in turn put them on and wore them proudly out the door. Terril, on the other hand, looked rather silly with hairy legs and wingtip shoes!  He took the job very seriously! Terril also served as an elder at Siwell Road Church of Christ. After years of service, he stepped down, but was always an advisor, confidant, teacher, role model, and friend.

Terril  is preceded in death by his mother and father, Viola and Manciel Morris of Cordova, Alabama; brothers, Homer, Charlie, Carlos, Jay, Johnny, and sister, Katrina Shubert.
