Sylvia was a proud 1964 graduate of Central High School in Jackson, where she cherished the friendships formed during her youth. She eagerly looked forward to reunions and often met with former classmates for lunches filled with laughter and reminiscence. Following high school, she attended Hinds Community College, where she participated as a high stepper. This experience culminated in one of her proudest achievements—taking part in the parade at the World’s Fair in New York, an event that left a lasting impression on her.
Professionally, she dedicated many years of her life working as a secretary and bookkeeper at Stevens Sheet Metal & Iron Works and later Entergy, displaying an admirable work ethic and commitment to her roles. Beyond her career, Sylvia's passions extended to gardening, thrift shopping, and genealogy. She found joy in sharing her love for the outdoors with her children and grandchildren, particularly through camping, crabbing, and fishing along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A seamstress, she passed on her sewing skills to her daughter and granddaughter, fostering creativity and hands-on learning within her family. Cooking was another labor of love for Sylvia, who thoroughly enjoyed preparing meals for her loved ones, particularly during birthdays and holidays.
Sylvia was a member of Lakeshore Church in Byram, where she found community and fellowship.
