Obituary

Sonya Wayne Goza, 82, was called home by her Lord and Savior on April 29, 2026. After an ongoing illness, she passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram and funeral services will be Wednesday, May 6, 2026, visitation 12:00-1:00, funeral at 1:00 in the chapel, with a private graveside to follow, family only please at the graveside. Sonya was born June 29, 1943, in Picayune, MS and grew up in Purvis, MS. She held a long tenure serving the state of Mississippi; first in the governor’s office and then for the Mississippi State Fair Commission. Upon her retirement, she worked for the family business. Sonya was a faithful member of Country Woods Baptist Church and an active member serving Brandon Baptist Church. She was the epitome of a strong woman and fought her illness until the end. Her life was a testament to faith, family and the joy that comes from a heart dedicated to loving and serving others. She was truly a rock and the glue for her family, as well as a light to anyone who met her.

Sonya was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Goza, her parents L.D Jarvis, Jr. and Joan Jarvis. Her brother, Lewis Dewayne Jarvis III, great nephew Dustyn Hatten and son-in-law Jon Harper.

She is survived by her children: Tanya (Kevin) Hester, Michael (Laura) Jones, Michael Goza, Scott (Belinda) Goza, and Janie Harper.

She is also survived by her sisters, Mary (Ralph) Hatten and Stephanie Jarvis; her 13 grandchildren, Christi Fisher, Michele Fisher, Justin Jones, Brooke (Chase) Johnson, Alison Goza, Haley (Steven) Smith, Sara Powell Harper, Lindsey Harper, Zach (Katy) Goza, Shelbie (Michael) Moses, Tanner (Ally) Marble, Will Marble and Mia Marble; and her 15 great grandchildren, Brennan Ainsworth, Bailey Ainsworth, Braxton Johnson, Brody Johnson, Winter Grace Marble, Birdie Mae Marble, Rowdy Marble, Beckham Goza, Graham Goza, Gia Goza, Joseph Moses, Eli Moses, Caleb Moses, Campbell Smith and Caleb Smith; along with many Nieces and Nephews.

Sonya’s legacy will live on through her family and she will be greatly missed by everyone that loved her.
