Shirley Ann Bowen passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, April 19, 2024, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She was 73 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, at First Baptist Church in Florence and again from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at First Baptist Church in Florence with service beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Interment will follow at Florence Cemetery. Bro. Sam Taylor will be officiating the service.
Mrs. Bowen was born on February 11, 1951, to Dot Nelson Thompson and Rosie Lee Horn in Jackson, MS. Gary Bowen and Shirley were high school sweethearts and were married for 54 years. Her occupation was a Mortgage Banker for 40 plus years. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Florence where she was a Sunday School teacher, worked in the children’s missions, and Vacation Bible School. She also, served on the pastor search committee and went on mission trips. She was a true Servant of the Lord. Shirley was also a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Shirley Bowen is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James, Larry, and Curtis Thompson. She is survived, by her husband, Gary Bowen; daughter, Angie (Ivy) Bradshaw; sons, Paul (Karin) Bowen and Lucas (Amy) Bowen; grandchildren, Chassidy Bradshaw, Blake Bradshaw, Kailee “The Bug” Bradshaw, Patrick Bowen, Julia Bowen, and Layla Bowen; brother, William (Nan) Thompson; sister, Kay (Terry) Mullins; mother-in-law, Nina Jean Bowen and numerous, nieces and nephews.
