Roy Randolph "Randy" Cowling, 82, passed away on February 28, 2026, from dementia and COPD. He was born March 12, 1943, in Nashville, Arkansas, to Leroy and Helen Hallmark Cowling. During World War Il, Randy and his mother lived with his grandparents, Frank and Mearl Hallmark, while his father served overseas.
Randy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1961. A talented musician and athlete, he played saxophone in the school band, enjoyed the piano, and played football until an eye injury sidelined him for a year. Through determination and hard work, he completed summer school and graduated with his class.
He studied drafting at Texas Business University and built a long career in the energy industry. After various positions, including work with WBRZ-TV, he found his calling with Shell Oil Company. Randy retired from the Yellowhammer Plant in Mobile, Alabama, in 2003 after 25 years of service and continued contract work until 2009.
Randy married the love of his life, Rachel Elizabeth Curran, on August 31, 1961. They shared 64 devoted years of marriage and built a family that was his greatest pride.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Curran Cowling; daughters Ronda Cowling Burton (Robert), Roslyn Cowling Acosta (Tim Watts), and Romy Cowling Aguilar (John Benal); grandchildren Bianca, Miciela (Chase), Cassidy (Trevor), Gabe, and Adeline; and great-grandchildren Dominic, Ava, Piper, and Mia. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Cowling (Ruth), extended family members, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Hallmark Cowling; his grandparents, Frank and Mearl Hallmark; and his in-laws, Marion Greenwood Curran and James Curran.
Randy will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of music, and his unwavering devotion to his family.
