Richard David Martin

Richard David Martin, known to family and friends as David or Poppy, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Collins, MS. He was born on November 14, 1942, in Bashi, Alabama, to Judie Irene Walker Martin and Dee Martin. He has lived in Richland since 1996.

David served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a technician representative for Addressograph-Multigraph, AM International, and Advantage Business Systems, devoting 45 years of his working life having a career marked by dedication and steady service.

He was a man with a great sense of humor who enjoyed picking on people, bringing laughter and lightness to those around him. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, and in his senior years, he found pleasure in trivia and playing games. He enjoyed watching television, especially Jeopardy and football. He also loved tinkering and fixing things, and he often made different products for the house, reflecting both his creativity and his practical nature.

David will be deeply missed by those who survive him, including his sons, Ricky Martin (Jennifer), and Michael Martin (Erin), all of Brandon, MS. He also leaves behind his grandsons, Sean Martin (Brooke), and Seth Martin; great-grandchild, Snow; sister, Patricia Melton of Star, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. His memory will remain a cherished part of their lives and of the many moments they shared with him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Martin; his parents, Dee and Judie Martin; his brothers, Buddy Martin, Johnny Martin, Jimmy Martin, and Bobby Lee Martin; and his sisters, Agnes Jones and Louise Smith.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, 2576 US 49, Florence, MS 39073. A second visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Richland Cemetery on Cleary Road in Richland, MS.
