Obituary

Quint Lamar McPhail, Jr. (Lamar), 37, of Raymond, MS passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 23, 2026 at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS. He was born in Jackson, MS, August 6, 1989 to Kathy Smith McPhail and the late Quint Lamar McPhail, Sr. Lamar graduated from Terry High School in 2007. He began his career at Metro Mechanical in Bolton, MS in January 2008, where he made many lasting relationships and worked hard to obtain his most current position of Partner/Director of Operations.

On April 21, 2012, Lamar married Erin Catchot McPhail and, together, they built a life full of love and laughter. They later fulfilled their biggest dream by having two beautiful children, Quinn McPhail and Waylon McPhail. Lamar’s various interests and talents included metal fabrication, teaching technical skills through work, and spending time working on cars – a passion that allowed him to use his hands, his knowledge, and his knack for fixing things. Though Lamar had a wealth of knowledge and skills, nothing brought him more pride than passing them on to his children, teaching them valuable life lessons they will carry with them for years to come.

Above all else, Lamar’s greatest joy was his family. Whether he and Erin were cheering on their daughter at a cheer competition one day or hunting with their son the next, they were always making memories together. One of their latest life adventures included rock crawling with fellow buggy (modified Jeeps) friends and family in Utah. Lamar worked hard, played hard, and loved fiercely. He and Erin were blessed with a circle of friends who were much more than just friends- they were family. That circle will continue to surround Erin, Quinn, and Waylon through this difficult time and the days to come. Lamar’s infectious laugh, quirky sense of humor, gruff exterior, and big ol’ heart will be missed terribly.

Lamar was preceded in death by his father, Quint Lamar McPhail, Sr, paternal grandfather Herbert McPhail, and maternal grandmother Joyce Ann Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Erin Catchot McPhail, daughter Elizabeth Quinn McPhail, son Waylon Lamar McPhail, mother Kathy Smith McPhail, brother Tyler McPhail (Tayler), sister Skylar McPhail Freeman (Tucker), paternal grandmother Sylvia McPhail, maternal grandfather Kenneth Lee Smith. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Kelly and Robin Catchot, brother-in-law Daniel Catchot (Courtney) as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. Lamar will always have a place in the hearts of his many, many dear friends and their families. The world was a better place with Lamar in it.

Family will receive guests at a visitation at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends are invited to come in their jeeps, classic cars or hot rods as a special tribute to Lamar and his love for anything with a motor!
