Obituary

Philip Laird, a dedicated advisor for the MS State Board of Health and a cherished member of his community, passed away on February 7, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Born on August 29, 1939, in Natchez, MS to Frederick Fosby Laird and Hattie Anita Westbrook Laird.

Philip's commitment to service was evident not only in his professional endeavors but also in his military service. He held a master’s degree, demonstrating his pursuit of knowledge and excellence throughout his life. Philip was particularly proud of his role as a master gardener, contributing his talents at the Ag Museum's herb garden, where his passion for horticulture flourished.

A devoted member of the Northeast Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Madison, Philip found joy and purpose within his faith community. His welcoming nature and kind spirit touched many lives, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Philip is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Marjorie Marsinko Laird; his son, Robert Laird (Debbie); and his daughter, Karen Laird. He was also a cherished grandfather to Christine Lavoie (Jason), Adam Laird, Philip Sanders, and April Laird, as well as a proud great-grandfather to Nicholas Laird Brown, Destiny Gay, and Alex Laird.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Hattie Laird and his son, William Laird.

As we remember Philip Laird, let us celebrate a life dedicated to family, community service, and the beauty of nature. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
