Opal Johnson, 86, of Richland, MS passed away peacefully in her home on July 10th from natural causes. Opal was preceded by her parents Ben and Gertrude Miller and husband Joe, daughter, Santa Corbin. She was the youngest of five children born in an unpainted house in Doddsville MS. Her parents later moved to Kosciusko, MS where she grew up.
Opal worked as a Tax Auditor for the State of Mississippi for many years but her greatest accomplishment was being a faithful wife and caring mother of four daughters. She is survived by Keryon Cushman (Mark) of Florence, MS, Pamela Moye (Mark) of Richland, MS, and Melanie Stovall (Donald) of Florence, MS. Her grandchildren, Neil Corbin Jr. (Alyse) of Dallas TX, Justin Smith (Kerin) of Florence, MS, Julian Corbin (Emily) of New York, Spencer Stovall (Presley) of Hattiesburg, MS, Shelby McCoy (Madison) of Florence, MS, John Mark Cushman (Maricris) of Florence, MS, Samantha Allen (Chase) of Florence, MS, Daniel Moye (Bentley) of Florence, MS. She loved her family dearly and left a long Christian legacy. Her personality and smile would light up any room that she entered. She had a very generous heart and was a Mother of faith to many. Her example led many to Christ! She always had an open heart for meeting new people and making them feel accepted and loved for who they were. Her last years were spent going to the Richland Senior Center playing cards, bingo and fellowshipping with her friends every week.
Her love for God, Country, Church & Family rang through every act of selfless service including; singing in adult church choirs, Vacation Bible School ministry & serving in bereavement committees.
We would like to extend our great appreciation to the Caregivers; Lisa Webb, Martha Keen, Wanda Smith, Angel Orders. A special thanks to Accent Hospice Care Group and for their professional, loving and caring staff, as well as her church family of FBC Florence for their prayers and visits.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the FBC Florence Building Fund.
She will be truly missed and forever remembered as Momma, Nonnie, Grandma and Gigi.
