Jack went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 18 surrounded by his family. The family will receive extended family and friends Tuesday, December 19, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at First Baptist Church Florence. The funeral will be Wednesday, December 20, at 2:00 pm at the church with visitation at 1:00.

Jack was the last child born to P. C. and Cora Harrington Quick in Scott County on March 14, 1931. After Jack completed school in Jackson, MS he went to work for the Clarion Ledger Newspaper, serving six years apprenticeship under a journeyman printer and retiring after 43 years of service as the Composing Room Supervisor. After working a few years at the paper, a young lady, Betty Black, came to work there in the accounting department. She became the love of his life and his wife on April 7, 1950, and they had 73 happy years together.

God blessed them with three children, Larry, Carolyn, and Mike. From their children came the blessing of seven grandchildren: Brad, Jason, Brian, Justin, and Josh Quick, Jamie Higdon, and Bethany Sabins. In addition, there are 11 great grandchildren: Brenda, Christopher, Brandon, Garon, Hunter, Ty and Jack Quick, Sydney and Karlie Higdon, and JP and Bailey Sabins.

Jack loved his family deeply and led them by setting a good Christian example before them. One of his favorite things was gathering all of his family together for a family meal. His favorite pastime was working in his garden.

Jack served his country in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Siboney during the Korean War.

Along with working at the Clarion Ledger, he and Betty owned a photography business specializing in wedding photography. The business thrived through the years, and they were able to guide many young couples into married life.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, eight sibling and his little granddaughter Jodie Leigh Boteler. He is survived by his wife Betty, his three children, Larry (Wendy) of West Palm Beach, FL; Carolyn Boteler (Sidney Paul) of Florence; and Mike (Linda) of Florence; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Christopher Quick will play Tapps at the graveside.
