Neil Joseph Minton, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, cherished brother, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in Florence, Mississippi, at the age of 74.
Born on May 7, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, Neil’s life was one defined by deep love for his family, steadfast service to his country, and an unwavering dedication to those around him. From the earliest days of his youth, Neil possessed a gentle strength and kindness that would come to characterize the many relationships he built over his lifetime.
Neil's commitment to serving others guided him into a distinguished career with the United States Air Force. His years in the military not only exemplified his sense of duty and patriotism but also forged lasting bonds among his fellow servicemen and women, his beloved “guard buddies.” After years of dedication, he retired honorably, recognized for his unwavering integrity, loyalty, and spirit.
At the heart of Neil’s life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Little Minton, whose partnership and companionship were sources of mutual strength and joy throughout their many years together. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Jennifer Branson (Chad), who carries forward Neil’s legacy of warmth and generosity.
Neil’s siblings, brother Keith Minton and sister Ann Winter, as well as his nieces and nephews, Lenny Minton, Josie Minton, Nicole Fox, Jason Fox, and Joseph Winter, each bear unique memories of his encouragement, kindness, and good humor. Among those who called him “Uncle Neil,” he will be remembered for his gifted ability to lift spirits and make everyone feel valued.
Proudly embracing his role as a grandfather, “PaPa” Neil found immense joy in the lives of his grandchildren; Jack Branson and Liam Branson; and his great nieces and nephews, Julian Figueroa, Jonah Figueroa, Jemma Figueroa, Jude Fox, Jack Fox, Ana Fox, Nathan Winter, Oliver Winter, and Kierra Winter. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply a comforting word, Neil’s influence on the younger generation remains indelible.
He also leaves behind cherished memories with his extended family and friends, who will forever recount his special, kind, and giving nature—a gentle soul who could make anyone laugh and, more importantly, feel truly important. Neil was a dedicated servant to mankind, carrying compassion and generosity into every encounter.
Neil was predeceased by his loving parents, Francis Minton and Elaine Mazza Minton, as well as his father-in-law, Ralph R. Little, and mother-in-law, Dorothy L. Little. Their legacy is inseparable from Neil’s, as he honored their values in every aspect of his life.
A memorial service celebrating Neil Joseph Minton will be held on August 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, 2576 US 49, Florence, MS 39073. All who knew and loved Neil are invited to pay their respects, share memories, and honor a life spent in meaningful service and devotion to others.
Neil leaves behind a profound legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. He touched countless lives with his gentle spirit, and he will be greatly missed by all whose lives he enriched.
