Miriam Day Holcomb, 86, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 2, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Friday, May 7, at the Chancellor Funeral Home on Siwell Road in Byram. Services will be held 10 am on Saturday, May 8, at the Siwell Road Church of Christ (4075 S. Siwell Road, Jackson) with viewing one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Lakewood South Cemetery on McCluer Road, Jackson. Mrs. Holcomb was born in Tiplersville, MS, to the late Everett C. Day, Sr., and Julia Shannon Day. She was an executive secretary to the director of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for 25 years. She was a faithful member of the Siwell Road Church of Christ. She taught children’s Bible classes for many years, and sang for many weddings and funerals with her husband. She was tirelessly devoted to her husband and four children, and to her sixteen grandchildren. She enjoyed drawing, cooking, and playing games with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Holcomb, Jr., and her brothers Eugene Day and Billy Day. Survivors include children, David Holcomb (Marianne) of Destin, FL, Julie McFarland (Rusty) of Friendswood, TX, DeWayne Holcomb (Madeline) of Cedar Park, TX, and Kendra Smiley (Eric) of Brandon, MS; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers Everett C. Day, Jr., of Paducah, KY and Robert S. Day of Memphis, TN, and sister Patsy Ainsworth of Bedford, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Siwell Road Church of Christ – Louis Rushmore missionary fund.
