Mrs. Mildred Hodge Parker, age 90 – exchanged her earthly life for eternity on Friday, September 16, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 20 at Chancellor Funeral Home, Florence, Mississippi and again on Wednesday, September 21 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Hall officiating the ceremony. She will be laid to rest in the Garden of Memories, Florence, MS.
Mrs. Parker lived a very long and full life and will be greatly missed. Some of the highlights of her life include her love and devotion to her family and to her church, Jackson First Assembly of God. She also enjoyed fishing (especially with her husband) and gatherings with family and friends. She was passionate about cooking for everyone, and especially celebrating birthdays, holidays, and other significant life events with grand family meals.
Mrs. Parker was a true servant at heart and was frequently the very last person to the table ensuring others were served first and their needs were more important than her own. She was especially devoted to her husband of 69 years, Billy Parker. Theirs was a beautiful and wonderful marriage, a Biblical example of Christian marriage with God as the center of the home and it all began with their first date, a Youth for Christ event, held at the King Edward Hotel in Jackson.
In her spare time, she was employed as a medical secretary for Jackson Bone and Joint and later worked for Dr. William C. Warner as a personal secretary for 35 years.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Billy Parker; daughters Deborah (Milton) Pickett and Sheila (Ray) Pearson, daughter-in-law Suzanne Parker, brother Pat (Lois) Hodge, sister Martha Ann Dalton; seven grandchildren: Shane (Angie) Parker, Candace (Casey) Pilgrim, Ryan (Amber) Hardwick, Chad (Pam) Hardwick, Tim (Lana) Pickett, Colton (Savannah) Pearson, and London Pearson, Hannah Backstrom, Garrett Backstrom, and Jennifer Backstrom; Great-grandchildren: Nicholas Hardwick, Madison Hardwick, Aiden Hardwick, Cadence Hardwick, Jack Parker, Rush Parker, Carson Pilgrim, Camden Pilgrim, and Sam Pearson ; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mack and Jenny Lucille Wooten Hodge; son Billy Wayne Parker; brothers: Arthur, Jack, Mack Jr., Dan, Joe Ree Hodge; sisters: Irene Seal, Mary Mize, Thelma Wade, Willie Frank Vaughn, and Marie Canton.
