Michael Edward Flinta, born on April 18, 1949, in Hanford, California, peacefully passed away on June 16, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi. Throughout his seventy-seven years, Michael touched the lives of many through his quiet strength, unwavering love for family, and a life well-lived in dedication and service.
Michael was the beloved son of Phillip Paul Flinta and Opal Elizabeth Floyd Flinta, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his cherished wife, Nancy Kaye Hankins-Flinta; his son, Michael Douglas Flinta; his sisters, Susan Flinta and Patsy Flinta; and sister-in-law, Linda Squires.
A proud veteran, Michael served his country honorably in the United States Navy. His commitment to service and his steadfastness were qualities that guided him throughout his life, providing a foundation of integrity and responsibility that inspired all who knew him.
He possessed a deep affection for the art of leatherwork and found great joy in craftwork that reflected a loving respect for tradition and creativity. Michael held a particular appreciation for anything involving Native American heritage, which resonated in his interests and activities. He was also known for his enthusiasm as a gun enthusiast and appreciated the skills and camaraderie associated with his passion.
Of all his accomplishments, Michael was most proud of his role as a father. He deeply loved his children and was a guiding presence in their lives. His sons; Phillip Flinta, Toby Flinta, and Paul Flinta, remain as living testaments to his nurturing spirit and devoted parenting. Alongside them, Michael’s memory will live on in his beloved grandchildren: Megan, Amber, Ariel (Antonio), Jessica, Michael, Brittany, and Opal (Daniel). His legacy extends to his cherished great-grandchildren: Abby, Hailey, Kayden, Paislynn, Bobbi, Mary Katherine, Kolby, Layken, Noah, James, Drake, and Bentleigh. The love and guidance he provided will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all.
Family, friends, and all who wish to honor Michael's life are invited to gather for visitation at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, located at 2576 US 49, Florence, MS 39073, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service celebrating his remarkable life will follow at the same location, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
