Michael Joseph Finnegan Sr, beloved widower, father, grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by his children. He was born on February 25, 1942, in Jackson, Mississippi. Michael was a man of dignity and unwavering generosity.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 44 years, Annie Ileen Finnegan, and his son, Ryan Glenn Finnegan.
Affectionately known as “Mickey,” he is survived by his children, Pam Finnegan Wood; Michael Joseph Finnegan Jr. (Lori); and Tammy Savant Kitchens (Allen); eight grandchildren, Cameron, Chandler, Jack, Harrison, Annie, Colby, Dawson, and Michael "Trace" Joseph, lll; seven great-grandchildren, Estella, Atticus, Kassian, Corley, Selah, Shia, and Ollie; his brother, Robert; and his sisters, Ann, Peggy, Marilyn, and Sherry-all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Mickey was the founder of Custom Bilt Portable Buildings, established in 1974 on Highway 49 South in Florence, Mississippi. Through his dedication, hard work, and vision, the business became a well-known local landmark and continues today under the care of his son, Michael Finnegan Jr. Mickey loved classic cars, a passion reflected in his remarkable collection, often displayed along the roadside, an ever changing showcase that brought smiles to countless passersby, with several of his vehicles even featured in prominent Hollywood films over the years.
Above all, Mickey will be remembered for his gentle spirit, humility, and unwavering generosity. He was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide a life for his loved ones that reflected his values and dreams. His quiet strength and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
While many seek recognition in life, Mickey earned the respect and admiration of others simply by the way he lived. His legacy is one of love, hard work, and kindness. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi, with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m.
