Merton Taylor Whitehead Jr.

Merton Taylor Whitehead, Jr. retreated into the loving arms of Jesus in his Heavenly home on Wednesday, February 12, 2024, in Flowood, MS. He was 69 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Jackson Cemetery in Flora, MS.

Merton was born on December 13, 1954, to Merton and Evelyn Whitehead in Flora, MS. His spiritual birth is April 2022, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Merton attended Tri County Academy and went on to Hinds Community College in vocational trade courses. He held many positions of employment in his life, but his most favorite of all, he would proudly recount, was the time as a diesel mechanic, working along side his hero, his dad.

Merton loved his family. He dedicated his whole heart to them, and he was a wonderful father. He LOVED his fiancé, Amanda. In his younger years he really enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Merton loved spending quality time with his grandchildren. Attending their events when he was physically able and being there to give them advice. He will truly be missed.

Merton is preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Evelyn Whitehead, Sr.; brothers, Harry, and Rusty Whitehead; and sister, Lerisa Weinke. He is survived by his daughter, Angelia Permenter; sister, Jan Whitehead Muse (Vernon); and his partner in life, Amanda Baker. Together he and Amanda shared 11 grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.
