Merle Rester

Merle Rester passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at his home in Richland, MS. He was 81 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park in Richland, MS.

Merle was born on May 21, 1942, to Woodrow Rester and Alpha Mae Stephens in New Hebron, MS. He was raised in Columbus, MS, but has lived in Richland for the past 58 years where he was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland. Merle loved John Deere tractors, gardening, and Ole Miss sports, especially Ole Miss Baseball. Merle loved his family. He was a true family man. Nothing came before his kids, grandkids, or his animals. He enjoyed renovation projects, farming, and traveling around the country in their RV. He also enjoyed coaching little league sports and taking his son to sporting events. He will truly be missed by all.

Merle is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Peggy Reynolds. He is survived by the love of his life of 63 years, Bobbie Rester of Richland; children, Teresa Skelton (Ronnie) of Florence, Tina Craft (Robert) of Richland and Tim Rester of Richland; grandchildren, Megan Sullivan (Buddy), Tyler Bradshaw (Natalie), Isaac Craft (Ali), Kaylee Mitchell (Colby), Courtney Rester and Timothy Rester; and 13 great grandchildren.
