Mavis Fredericks Nail

Mrs. Mavis Frederick Nail passed away March 11, 2023, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.  She was 93 years old.  She was one of seven children born to Elmer Frederick and Willie Kennedy Frederick of Smithville, MS.  A graduate of Smithville High School, she attended Hinds Junior College on a basketball scholarship and graduated with an associate degree in dietary nutrition.  She worked for many years at Hinds General Hospital as a dietary technician.  She and James Nail, Sr had four children and called Jackson their home for nearly 75 years. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Nail, Sr; her son, James Nail, Jr; a brother, James Fredericks, and a sister, Irene Hattaway.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Nail of Jackson, Carl Nail of Flower Mt., TX; and a daughter, Deloris Grimes of Florence, MS; sisters, Faye Stevens of Amory, MS, Alice Ramey of Fulton, MS, and Mary Lou Carothers of Fulton, MS, and a brother, Jerry Lee Frederick of Smithville, MS.

There will be a Graveside service held Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 9:00 am at Lakewood South Cemetery.
