Obituary

Mary Alice Shuler, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Born on June 20, 1945, in Clinton, Mississippi to William Brewer and Mary Elizabeth McNeil Brewer, Mary Alice’s life was a testament to faith, family, and the joy that comes from a heart dedicated to loving and serving others.

Raised in Terry and having grown up in West Jackson, Mary Alice ultimately made her home in Raymond for the majority of her life before relocating to Wesley Chapel in her later years to be near her sister. Throughout her journey, her unwavering faith was a guiding light. She was known to express her spirit through heartfelt words, once humbly remarking, “I kept praying for patience and God kept giving me kids.” This was a true statement of her deep embodiment of motherhood, grand motherhood, patience, and love.

Mary Alice’s love for family was evident in everything she did. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were a treasured tradition for her, occasions she eagerly prepared for with cooking and generous heart. She was a woman who cherished conversations, storytelling, and the simple joy of connecting with people.

Her personable nature was matched only by her strong spiritual conviction. As a dedicated member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church, her faith was central to her identity and strength. Mary Alice’s belief in God was steadfast.

Mary Alice was preceded in death by her devoted parents; her loving husband, JC Shuler; her mother and father-in-law, Vester and Thelma Shuler; her daughters, Twila Hansen and Angela Jeannette Roberts; a sister, Billie Ruth Whitehead; and brothers, David Brewer, Sr., Tommy Brewer, Fuzzy Brewer, and Sonny Brewer.

She leaves behind two daughters, Melissa Smith of Raymond and Cindy White of Crystal Springs; three sons, Jason Shuler of Monticello,  Kevin Shuler  and Jimmy Shuler of Raymond. Her surviving sisters, Mildred Huff, Marie Straub, and Marsha House, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, carry forward her legacy of love and faith.

There will be a Visitation on Friday, May the 1, 2026 11am-1pm and a Funeral Service at 1pm, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. There will be a brief Graveside Service following at Lakewood Memorial Park at 2pm.
