Marie Phillips, a cherished resident of Florence, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on October 11, 1946, in Jackson, Mississippi, Marie lived a life marked by warmth, talent, and a profound love for nature and family.
From a young age, Marie displayed a remarkable intellect and determination. Her early achievement of winning the Rankin County spelling bee in the sixth grade was a testament to her dedication and sharp mind—a victory she treasured deeply. This accomplishment highlighted not only her academic talents but also her spirited approach to challenges, which carried through her entire life.
Marie’s smile was truly infectious; it had a unique ability to light up any room she entered. Those who were fortunate enough to know her often recall her joyful demeanor and the comfort she brought to everyone around her. This radiant spirit was at the heart of her character and manifested in every aspect of her life.
An accomplished Master Gardener, Marie’s passion for cultivating vegetables and flowers brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Her garden was a reflection of her care and attention, flourishing under her nurturing hands. She loved sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends, and her garden became a place of gathering, celebration, and peace.
Marie’s family was central to her world. She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, George Phillips, to whom she was married for 59 wonderful years and whom she loved very much. her brother, Joe Singletary; her son, Anthony (Carolyn) Phillips; and her beloved grandchildren, Skylar (Jacob) Kouser, Dakota Andrews, Joshua Andrews, Hayden Phillips, and Ashleigh (Miguel) Rodriquez. Each of these treasured individuals carried with them the warmth and values Marie instilled through her life and love. She was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Chisolm, whose memory she cherished deeply.
The family invites all who knew Marie to join in a burial service celebrating her life to be held on April 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Beauregard Cemetery, located at 1102 Beauregard Rd in Wesson, Mississippi.
Marie Phillips leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and beauty. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but the light of her smile and the vibrancy of her spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
