Margie Marie Langston

October 4, 1925 — April 17, 2025

Richland

Margie Marie Langston, 99, passed from this life, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Plainview Assisted Living, in Richland, MS. Visitation will be at Old Silver Creek Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2025, with a chapel service following at 11:00. Interment will be at the Old Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Old Silver Creek, MS, and the daughter of the late Jacob Hollis Langston and the late Frances Hilda Armstrong Langston, she lived in Silver Creek most of her life. She worked and retired as a Court Reporter with the 13th Chancery District (Jeff Davis, Lawrence, Smith, Covington and Simpson Counties) for 33 years. Additionally, she worked in Jackson and Hattiesburg at the Internal Revenue Service, and U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport as a Clerk-Stenographer. Margie worked her way through college, attending Co-Lin, and graduating with “honors” from Mississippi Southern College (USM) in 1957 at the age of 31.

She was a member of First Baptist Church Monticello, however, Old Silver Creek Baptist Church was her church home for most of her life. Her hometown of Silver Creek, MS, held a very special place in her heart. She would tell people where she was from and invite them to visit this special place called Silver Creek. Margie often commented that God had been so good to her and that she was thankful for the good health she had enjoyed for many years. Her yard and gardens were a source of immense joy to her and admired by those who saw them. She was an excellent cook, and her pound cakes were divine. She would bake these for neighbors and family. On two occasions she shipped a Pound Cake to her great-nephew to his FOB, blessing many service members with her gift of love.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Hollis and Frances Hilda Langston, beloved brother, Hollis Haynes Langston, Sr., and niece, Kathy Langston Wansley. She is survived by her niece, Marsha Lineberry (Larry) and nephew, Hollis (Bubba) H. Langston, Jr. (Angie), all of Florence, MS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Although we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she lived a fruitful life and is rejoicing in heaven with her savior and a much longed for reunion with her dear family. They instilled in her the values that defined her life – faith, family and work.

We wish to express our deep appreciation for the loving care she received from Tracey and her staff at Plainview Assisted Living. The compassion and love shown to her during her long battle with dementia was a comfort to her and her family.

Memorials may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or Old Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
