Margaret Alice Godbold,97, a cherished matriarch, passed away on January 26, 2026, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on July 9, 1928, in Flora, Mississippi to Benjamin Phillips and Pearlee Wade Phillips, who instilled in her the values of hard work and service that she carried throughout her life. She dedicated her life to serving others, not only through her family but also through her career. She held the position of secretary for the United Methodist Church for over 40 years, a role in which she was known for her unwavering commitment and support to the congregation.

Margaret's warmth extended beyond her professional duties; she was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her two sons, Ben Goldbold (Lynn) hailing from Plano, Texas, and Tommy Godbold of Richland, Mississippi, along with her daughter, Peggy Smith of Cairo, Georgia. Margaret's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Nathan, Kasey, Daniel, Anna, Andrew, Lee, David, Stephen, and Juanita, along with several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her nurturing spirit and kind-hearted nature.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Godbold, and a daughter, Donna Ellen White.

Outside of her professional and familial commitments, Margaret found joy in various hobbies. She had a passion for sewing, quilting, and crocheting, often creating beautiful pieces that were treasured by family and friends. Margaret was also an enthusiastic cook who loved to share meals with her loved ones and enjoyed traveling, enriching her life with experiences and cherished memories.

A Graveside Service will be held in her honor at Springridge UMC Cemetery on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 1 PM. Her influence and compassion will be deeply missed but will remain a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
