With deep love and sorrow, the family of Ludie Fay Lewis announces her peaceful passing on August 8, 2026, in Florence, Mississippi. Born June 18, 1936, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, to Jim Stepp and Clytie Boren Stepp, Ludie lived 90 years devoted to her family, faith and caring for others.
Ludie held many reception and secretary jobs in her lifelong career, but was a caregiver for other elderly ladies until she was 80 years old herself. She loved helping her family, comforting a friend, preparing a meal, or simply noticing when someone needed a little extra care, she had a gift for making others feel looked after. Caring for people was not merely something she did; it was woven into who she was.
A gifted artist and seamstress, Ludie loved drawing, sewing, quilting, making jewelry, and crafting baby dolls. Her creativity and patient hands produced many beautiful things, each reflecting the same tenderness and attention she gave to the people she loved.
Ludie is survived by her children, Billy Lewis (Paula), Peggy Miles (Glenn), Sandra Trest, Phillip Huff (Debbie), and Jeffrey Lewis (Kristy); 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Patricia Lewis, Ronnie Eugene Lewis, Ronnie Lee Huff, and Linda Williams, and her parents, Jim Stepp and Lou Clytie Boren Stepp.
Ludie’s legacy lives on in the generations she loved, the beautiful things she created, and the countless lives made a little gentler because she was part of them. Her strength, creativity, compassion, and caring spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
