Lola Mae (Lawrence) Blocker, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She passed away at home in Byram, Mississippi, surrounded by her family.
Lola was born to Ernest and Zelma Lawrence on May 17, 1928, in Attala County, Mississippi. She attended Barnes School where she played basketball and was named valedictorian of her class.
She married John T. “Billy” Blocker after he returned home from military service in Korea, and they eventually settled in the Jackson area.
Lola was a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church. With the reputation of being an exceptional seamstress, she worked at Gayfer’s Department Store until she retired.
Lola loved being around her family. Her hobbies included looking at pretty flowers, watching basketball games, and cheering for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
She was preceded in death by her husband John T. “Billy” Blocker; parents Ernest and Zelma Lawrence; brothers Chester Lee and Willie; and sisters Earnestine, Helen, and Jennie.
She is survived by her son Johnny Blocker, three daughters Peggy Price, Judy Gray (Gary), and Tami Blocker; grandchildren Meredith Blocker, Jason Price, Brian Price, Kathryn Budniakiewicz, Ron Lea, and David Lea; and great grandchildren Madelyn Price and Nora Budniakiewicz. She is also survived by a sister Weda Ramage.
