It is with profound respect and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Liston Earl Blair, a cherished family man and devoted servant of God. Born on January 5, 1931, in Simpson County, Mississippi, Liston departed this life peacefully on May 22, 2026, in Richland, Mississippi.
Liston's life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family and faith. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably as a Private First Class. His commitment to service extended beyond the military, including active involvement as a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Exchange Club. These affiliations reflected his character—steadfast, honorable, and deeply connected to his community.
He found joy in the simple yet fulfilling pleasures of life: hunting rabbits, fishing, tending his garden and watching it flourish. These hobbies were expressions of his patient and nurturing spirit.
Liston’s family was the center of his world. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy Whatlington Blair, who stood by his side with love and companionship. His daughter, Karen Sanford, along with his stepchildren Ricky Daniel, Ande Daniel, Rita Johnson (Harold), Lori Spotswood, and Amy Nichols (Mike), carry forward his legacy. The numerous grandchildren Jessica Daniel, Jeremy Walters (Kimberly), Jonathan Walters (Melissa), Kayla Busfield, and Melissa Harrison (Jack) were blessed to know and cherish him deeply. His presence will also be fondly remembered by his great-grandchildren Hunter Daniel, Peyton Daniel (Emily), Hayden Daniel, Logan Walters, Aiden Walters, Rose Marie Walters, Jonathan Walters, Jr., McKenzie Walters, Audrey Busfield, Keegan Harrison, and Jackson Harrison, as well as one great-great-grandchild, Elena Daniel.
Liston was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alta Blair; his daughter, Jennie Ferguson; and his siblings Hollis Blair, Curtis Blair, Berry Blair, Clifton Blair, E. T. Blair, Pete Blair, Ethel Welch, Ora Lee Bynum, Bertha Mae Tossin, and Tressie Mott. Their memories remain a treasured part of his story.
A visitation to honor and remember Liston will be held on May 26, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Richland, located at 1102 U.S. 49 Frontage Rd, Richland, MS 39218. This will be followed by the funeral service at the same venue from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Liston's life was a testament to devotion—to family, to faith, to community. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him, embodying the values he held dear. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family respectfully acknowledges those who wish to honor Liston’s legacy through donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.
May Liston Earl Blair rest in eternal peace.
