Lillie Rene Jones, age 90, of Terry, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Lillie was born February 22, 1936, and was a lifelong native of Terry, MS. Lillie attended school in Terry where she met and married her husband, Freddie C. "Toby" Jones. They were married on May 15,1953, and spent 73 years honoring their commitment to each other.
Lillie served as a military wife and quickly after the birth of their first son, Stephen Warren Jones, she flew with an infant to be stationed with Toby in Japan. While living in Japan, Lillie served as a Civil Servant at Camp Zama. She proclaimed that those were some of her fondest years, being able to see and experience a different culture but profoundly declared there was no place like home! Upon moving back to Terry, Lillie and Toby had their second son, Jeffrey Wayne Jones. She then began her career as Assistant and Bookkeeper to J W.Underwood. She served in this role until her retirement but would quickly tell you her proudest accomplishments were those involving her church and family.
Lillie was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Terry, where she served her friends and family well. Lillie faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher for the College and Career, active in the WMU, Search Committees, Church Treasurer and visiting the homebound. Lillie enjoyed serving her family and she did it well. She also enjoyed sports, fishing, camping, playing the piano, singing, gardening and cooking. She was truly a very well-rounded Southern lady. If you showed up on her doorstep, you would not leave without being fully satiated, a bag full of groceries and having been shown or talked to about the love of Jesus. She loved her family and friends fiercely along with working hard to ensure that each person she encountered was seen, fed in many ways and truly loved.
Lillie is preceded in death by her father, Eugene Hales and mother, Dovie Hales; husband, Freddie C. "Toby" Jones; son, Jeffrey Wayne Jones.
Lillie is survived by her son, Stephen (Jo) Jones and six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation Friday morning, June 5,2026, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church Terry. The funeral service will be immediately following at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church Terry. Following the service she will be buried at Terry City Cemetery in Terry.
