Laverne Young Barnes

Laverne Young Barnes, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday morning, September 30, 2022.

Laverne was born to Jesse S. Young and Lillian Ethel Martin Young on November 24, 1926, in Amite County, Mississippi. She was happily married to the late George "Digger" Edward Barnes, Sr. for 57 years. Laverne was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Richland, Mississippi. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, Celebration Choir, and Senior Adult Ministry. Laverne retired from the Mississippi Baptist Hospital of Jackson, MS after 42 years of service.

Laverne was a Godly Women who loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart, and she was faithful to his call on her life. She served the Honduras Baptist Medical/Dental Mission, Inc. as a triage nurse for years on the mission field. She was also instrumental in helping organize and implement Congregational Nursing.

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, George "Digger" Edward Barnes, Sr.; son, George Edward "Eddie" Barnes. Jr.; father and mother, Jesse S. Young and Lillian Ethel Martin Young; brother, Hilton, Alton, H.M., Martin, and Carl Ray Young; She is survived by her children, Janet Barnes Bush (Robby), Nancy Barnes Ghafarianpoor (Moody), Huong Phan Edmondson (Neal); grandchildren, Stephen Paul Bush (Keely), Leah Bush White (Kory), Robert Daniel Bush (Fiance' Emily Gruzinskas), Mitra Ghafarianpoor (Fiance' Jody Bush), Mina Ghafarianpoor, Anna Edmondson, Alex Edmondson; great grandchildren, Andrea, Audrey, Lillian, Mattie, and Isaac; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with a service starting at 2:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS with Bro. Johnny Sanders officiating. A graveside burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Clinton, MS. Pallbearers will be Robby Bush, Stephen Bush, Daniel Bush, Kory White, Jody Bush, and Alex Edmondson.
