Obituary

Larry Shelley, a beloved figure and cherished family man, passed away on January 20, 2026, at St. Dominic–Jackson Memorial Hospital, at the age of 87. Born on July 1, 1938, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Larry’s life was marked by a deep love for family, a passion for the outdoors, and a welcoming spirit.

Larry was a devoted father to his daughter, Alissa Gipson, and a proud father-in-law to Steve Gipson. He was especially delighted to be a grandfather, bringing joy and wisdom to his three grandchildren, Devin (Kyla), Drew (Victoria), and Shelley Gipson. His heart extended beyond the traditional family circle, as he embraced Randy (Mary) Blair, a cherished young man who became a significant part of his extended family. Larry’s warmth and affection also encompassed Elsie Hughes, his dedicated caregiver, who offered him kindness and compassion during his later years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ginger Shelley; his daughter, Wanda Neely; and son-in-law, Ricky Neely. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James W. Shelley and Paul E. Shelley, Sr. Larry held a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Mandy Neely, and is also preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Shelley, and his mother, Mary Frazier Shelley.

Larry is survived by his loving family, including his sisters-in-law, Judy Brewer and Mary W. Shelley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with.

Larry worked as an electrician for many years and was a proud member of IBEW Local 480 for 53 years. He took great pride in his trade and was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Larry often shared stories of his adventures in the great outdoors. He found immense joy spending time with his family, creating lasting memories at their home on Eagle Lake. His Dobermans especially Lucy were more than pets; they were loyal companions who brought him comfort and happiness.
