Kathy Parker Erwin, 58, of Harrisville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026. Born August 8, 1967, in Jackson, Mississippi, Kathy lived a life marked by love, laughter, learning, and an unwavering devotion to her family, friends, students, and faith.
For many years, Kathy served as an educator with Simpson County Schools where she inspired generations of children. She left a lasting impact on countless students who remember her not only as a teacher, counselor, or librarian, but as someone who genuinely cared and made learning come alive.
Outside the classroom, those who knew her best will remember her for the joy she brought to everyday life. She was remarkably intelligent, quick-witted, and curious. She could hold a conversation with anyone, whether a lifelong friend or a stranger. Her sharp mind was matched only by her warm heart.
Kathy had a gift for storytelling. She loved books and shared that love with her grandchildren, reading stories with all the voices just the way they liked. She also delighted in simple pleasures like rocking babies, pushing strollers, playing board games, throwing baseballs in the yard, sharing stories, and making treasured memories with those she loved most.
Family was the center of Kathy's world. She was the beloved wife of 41 years to Gene Erwin of Harrisville. Together they built a life grounded in love, faith, and family. She was a devoted mother to Zac Erwin and his wife, Sarah, of Hattiesburg, and Grayson Erwin and his wife, Sarah, of Hazlehurst. Nothing brought Kathy greater joy than being "Ma Kat" to her grandchildren, Judah, Harki, Oakley, Wilson, and Elijah, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She is also survived by her brothers, Douglas Eichwurtzle and his wife, Penny, and Russell Parker and his wife, Rita, all of Harrisville.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gwen Parker, who she loved dearly.
Those who knew Kathy describe her as loving, kind, generous, funny, and genuine. She made people feel comfortable from the moment they met her, often leaving them feeling as though they had known her for years. Whether sharing a laugh, offering encouragement during a difficult season, or simply showing up for the people she loved, Kathy had a way of making others feel seen and valued.
Her legacy lives on in the students she taught, the family she cherished, the friends she treasured, and the countless lives she touched with her compassion, wisdom, humor, and love.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the memories she created and the example she set. They rejoice in the blessing of having known her and look forward to the day they will see her again.
To know Kathy was to love her, and to be loved by Kathy was a gift.
