Julia “Judy” Faye Martin Burroughs, 81, of Terry, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on July 5th.
Born on May 28, 1945, in Raleigh, Mississippi, Judy was the daughter of Buck and Ella Mae Martin. She graduated from Raleigh High School in 1963, where she was active in numerous school activities, including cheerleading and basketball. Following graduation, she moved to Jackson and began a career with Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. She dedicated many years of service to the company before retiring, taking a few years away from her career while raising her children, Geoff and Amber.
Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose greatest joy was caring for those she loved. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and special. Whether family or friend, Judy always remembered each person’s favorite meal and took great pleasure in preparing it whenever they visited.
An exceptional cook, Judy was especially known for her legendary homemade biscuits. Her biscuits were so admired that she often invited friends into her kitchen and taught classes on how to make them. The lessons she shared extended far beyond cooking, as she generously passed along her knowledge, hospitality, and love to everyone around her.
Judy also found great joy in sewing, quilting, gardening, and creating a beautiful home for her family. She took tremendous pride in her gardens, which reflected the same care and attention she gave to every aspect of her life. Her handcrafted quilts are treasured heirlooms that will provide warmth, comfort, and cherished memories for generations of her family.
Above all, Judy loved spending time with her family. Her greatest accomplishment was the life she built alongside her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Gary Burroughs of Terry; her son, Geoff Burroughs and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Burroughs; her daughter, Amber Burroughs Cox and son-in-law, Michael Cox; her grandchildren, Spencer Burroughs, Geordan Burroughs, and Tyler Cox; her sister, Ann Martin Albright of Terry; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Ella Mae Martin; her brother, Joe Mack Martin of Raleigh; and her brother-in-law, Bill Albright.
The family will receive friends on July 11, 2026, from 9:30a.m. to 11:30a.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Mississippi with a graveside service to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi at 12:00p.m.
Though her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind—in the gardens she planted, the meals she prepared, the quilts she lovingly stitched, and the enduring example of a life well lived and deeply loved.
