John Edward Moses,69, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Jaquith Nursing Home. Visitation will be 5PM-8PM Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram and 1 hour prior to 11AM Service Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church where John was a member. Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Clinton, MS.\ \ John was born April 14, 1938 - preceded in death by his parents Walter Anthony Moses, Sr. and Johnnie Ruth Wallace Moses, his brother, Walter Anthony "Tony" Moses, Jr., and his sister Frances Elizabeth "Betsy " Wages.\ \ John attended Enochs, Central and Poindexter schools. He graduated the 1st graduating class of Provine High School in 1956. He also attended Mississippi State University.\ \ He was in ROTC and served in the Mississippi Army National Guard, 932nd Dixie Division Artillery Group, Starkville, MS, 1956. He also served at the 631st Artillery Group in Jackson until retirement as Staff Sergeant in 1965. His greatest mentor was his 1st Sergeant Robert L. "Laymon" Wallace. \ \ John was an electrical contractor for 45 years - Moses Electric and John Moses Electric Company. He was known as the Number One Control Wizard and Expert having studied and received certification at the Allen-Bradley School of Controls in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. John's company worked for some of the largest elevated water tank companies in the United States doing the electrical and controls, some of which were Chicago Bridge and Iron, Caldwell Tanks, Brown Steel, Pittsburg Tank and Tower and Phoenix Fabricators. John once said that "if he tallied the footage of the tanks height, its steps would reach the gates of Heaven". \ \ John said he appreciated the opportunity to install wiring for a one person privy to a ten story building.\ \ John served on the Electrical Board of Contractors for the City of Jackson. He was an instructor for electrical apprenticeship schools, teaching each of the classes for the four year course. Teaching young men who became master electricians; some are now owners of their own electrical contracting companies. John received the prestigious award Boss of the Year for the National Women in Construction. John's City of Jackson's license number E32, which was also his father's, was retired in 2005. \ \ John was on the Colonel's Staff for the Honorable William L. Waller, Sr. \ \ He served on troop committees and was an institutional representative for Troop 2, Forest Hill and Troop 22, Asbury Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America, where all three of his sons, Chris, Mark and Matthew became Eagle Scouts. John was a minute man for World Gospel Mission, Marion, Indiana. Sponsor of little league boys baseball and girls softball teams for our children and grandchildren. He received an award for valuable contributions to the City of Jackson by the Optimist Club. The greatest of these was working on the mission field in Honduras and Nicaragua installing hydro-electrical for water in Tegucigalpa, Honduras boy's orphanage and wiring churches in these countries. John was a trustee, usher and greeter. He also helped prepare monthly breakfast for his church family at Lakeshore. He volunteered at Deliver To Me Senior Services and The Museum of Natural Science, along with his sister Betsy Wages.\ \ Former member of Karnac Hunting Club, Togo-Paradise Hunting Club, Pearl River Beagle Club and The Hole Hunting Club. John was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, which he encouraged his children and grandchildren to be. He was a firm believer in being a responsible custodian for our great outdoors, always mindful of God's blessings and to always leave something for tomorrow. John believed that all these wild creatures that roamed this earth were here for a good reason. Chris, Becky, Mark, Matthew and I gave John a birthday trip to the Amazon River in the country of Brazil with herpetologists Terry Vandeventer and Terry Majure of the Natural Museum of Science and National Geographic Team to see the wilds of another country. John loved hunting in Wyoming and Colorado with our sons, his friend Dalton Scales and me, making lasting friendships wherever he went.\ \ John's best friend, co-heart, and fishing buddy of many years was Mr. Chuck Rader. They always reminded me of the "Grumpy Old Men" movies. Mr. Rader passed away Christmas Eve, 2006 at the age of 92. \ \ This is farewell for now my sweetheart. It's so special knowing John is in the presence of God and reunited with …Oh so many people he loved. His greatest legacy was loving and enjoying his life, family, friends and his fellow man.\ \ Survivors:\ \ John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vivian Ann Tullos Moses, children, John Christopher Moses, Rebecca Ruth Moses Acey, Mark Edward Moses, Matthew Sean Moses (wife Shea) sister, Catherine Marilyn Moses Dietz (Richard)of Burlington Wisconsin, grandchildren, Christina Rebekah Acey, SPC Joshua John Paul Acey, Kristen Denise Moses, Hannah Leigh Moses, Pace Matthew Moses and Mae Evelyn Moses and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.\ \ Family request that memorials be given to Alzheimer's Foundation, the American Epilepsy Foundation, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church.\ \ On line guest book can be signed at www.chancellorfuneralhome.com.\ \
