John William Rowell Sr.

Mr. John William Rowell Sr. passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, December 30, 2022, in Florence, MS.  He was 81 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 6:00p.m.-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will follow at 2:00p.m.

Mr. Rowell was born to the late Gus Rowell and Ruby Foley Rowell on June 24, 1941, in Mobile, Alabama. He was a master glazier for 50 plus years.  He made his mark putting glass in all the major buildings in Jackson such as St. Dominic Hospital, Whitfield and the Keep building. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, and Alabama football, “Roll Tide”. He enjoyed coaching his son, John Jr., and other children Little League Baseball with the Florence Greens, even capturing the 1975 Plain Lions Club Minor League Championship posting an 18-1 record that year. He was a servant who enjoyed pouring into others.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son; Alex McClendon Rowell; brothers; Wendall, Jimmy, Charles and Jack Rowell and sister; Sharon Lee. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Tammie Rowell of Florence; son; John William Rowell Jr. (Becky) of Greenville, TN; daughters; Aimee Rowell of Lisbon, NH, Bonnie White (Sam) of Jonesboro, TN, and Rochelle Coffey of Katy, TX; stepson; Caleb McMillan of Portage, MI; sisters: Frances Baugnon of Mendenhall and Mary Rowell of Brandon; grandchildren; Jessica Dowell, Dakota Coffey, Cheyenne Coffey, Vancy Rowell, Jackson White, Sahana Rowell, Johnathan Gross, Lacey Gross, Jacob Buckner, Quinton Rowell (Lindsey), Michaela Hensley and Dillon Rowell; great grandchildren; Nichole Marion, Derreck, Gunner, and Ryker Britton-Rowell, Laura Gross and Roman Gross.
