Jimmie Earl Odom

Jimmie Earl Odom, passed from this life at home surrounded by family and friends on January 31, 2024, at the age of 84. Visitations will be Friday, February 2, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the homegoing service immediately following.  Both visitations and the funeral will be held at Apostolic Faith Church in Byram, MS with Chancellor Funeral Home handling the services. Internment will be at 3:00 PM at Shiloh Methodist Protestant Church in Sallis, MS near Thomastown, MS.  

Jimmie, born July 29, 1939 in Thomastown, MS to Ellis and Lerah Odom, was the fourth of eight children.  Jimmie, who loved his family dearly, was a hard worker and a real handyman.  Over the course of his life, he drove trucks for several different companies including both Canton and Jackson Redi-Mix.   His last job was maintenance supervisor at Manhattan Health Care.

Jimmie, a member of Apostolic Faith Church, loved singing and listening to Southern Gospel music, and collecting grandfather clocks, tools, and various other gadgets.  His love for tinkering led him to buy old cars, tractors, ATVs, and other various items which he would repair and resell.  Despite all this, other than his family and his Lord, Jimmie loved few things as much as telling stories and jokes and being the life of the party.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, C. Hughes Odom, Victor Odom, Mary Phillips, Wanda Lou Odom, and Linda Sue Brown.  He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Diane Odom, his two daughters, LaWanda (David) Campbell of Newport, TN and LaBreeska (Brent) Sistrunk of Florence, MS, and grandchildren, Dayla and Ellis Campbell and Brennan (Skyler), Brookly, and Brileigh Sistrunk.  As well as survived by two siblings, Tony Odom and Sharon Randall.   He is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
