Jeanette Blackwell Smith, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Jeanette was born and raised in Smith County, Mississippi, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and faith that guided her throughout her life. She spent many dedicated years working for Walmart, where she served faithfully as Head of Housekeeping, earning the respect of coworkers through her diligence and reliability.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter E. Blackwell; her parents, Jim Hancock and Bessie Gray-Hancock; her brother, Nathan Hancock; her sister, Kathy Gregg; her brother-in-law, W.T. Gregg; and her sister-in-law, Debbie Hancock.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sherrie Stubbs; her cherished grandchildren, Josh (Allison) Edmonson, Chris (Miranda) Edmonson, Shaun (Kimberly) Williamson, and Amber (Zach) Morgan; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Austin Edmonson, Breann Edmonson, Gracie Edmonson, Tytan Edmonson, Christian Edmonson, Bentley Edmonson, Keegan Morgan, and Gannon Morgan, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Jeanette was a devoted mother and grandmother who deeply loved her family. From a young age, she helped raise her siblings, a reflection of the nurturing spirit she carried throughout her life. She had a true gift for cooking, which brought family together around her table, and she took great joy in sewing, gardening, and caring for her plants and flowers. Her home was always filled with warmth, care, and love.
Most importantly, Jeanette was a woman of strong faith. She loved going to church and held a deep, unwavering love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, which gave her strength and peace throughout her life.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi. A burial service will follow at Silver Creek Cemetery in McComb, Mississippi, where Jeanette will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Jeanette Blackwell Smith will be remembered for her loving heart, her faithful spirit, and the legacy of love she leaves behind in her family.
