Janice Elaine Thomas was born March 1, 1939, in Opelousas, Louisiana, to Ivan Raymond Thomas and Lena Eleanor Hodges. She was raised in Louisiana and Dallas, Texas, and grew up alongside her brother, Phillip Ray Thomas, who preceded her in death on September 30, 2005, at the age of 67.

Janice was first married to John Alvin Dodson, who preceded her in death. She later married Arthur Lee Wilkerson, whom she later divorced on January 23, 2002.

Janice was a dedicated and accomplished woman who spent many years working as a nurse at Hinds General Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She also worked as a real estate agent and took great pride in the many ways she served others throughout her life.

Janice often shared stories with her family about her time traveling throughout the country and mentoring young people as part of the anti-drug movement in schools during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. She spoke fondly of those years and was especially proud of the positive impact she was able to make on the lives of others. Her work gave her a strong sense of purpose, and she treasured the memories she made during those years.

Janice spent several years living in Washington, where she greatly enjoyed her time and the experiences she had there. She eventually returned to Mississippi, where she lived with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandson before later moving to Edgewood Health and Rehabilitation.

Janice will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Sistrunk of Byram, Mississippi, and Cynthia Plotkin of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; her five grandchildren, Bonnie, Harley, and Mallory Sistrunk, Chris Mann, and Trisca; as well as extended family and friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Janice leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
