Obituary

James Wilbur “Jimmy” Sanders, 76, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026. He was born on September 22, 1949, and grew up in Jackson before making his home in Florence.

Jimmy attended Jackson Public Schools and worked as a contractor throughout his career. He was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church and was a man of strong character who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in his community who needed it.

Jimmy had a love for working with his hands, especially mechanic work and restoring and working on old farm equipment. He took great pride in being able to fix things and was always ready to help when someone needed his knowledge or skills. Above all, Jimmy treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished by his family for generations to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Wilbur Sanders: his beloved wife, Suzan Sanders; and his daughter, Ashley Sanders.

Jimmy is survived by his son, Shane (Robin) Sanders; grandchildren, Hayden (Amanda) Flynn, Beatty Barron, Hannah Sanders, Reagan Sanders, and Payton Sanders; great-grandchildren, Mercy and Evangeline Flynn; brother, Tommy Gene Sanders; and sisters, Rita Welch and Mary Anne Evans.

Jimmy will be remembered for his generous heart, willingness to help others, love of working with his hands, and most of all his devotion to his family. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
