James Ray “Jim” Polk, 66, passed from this life on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at his home in Richland, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 9th at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:15 p.m. in Clear Branch Cemetery, Florence, MS. Due to the ongoing pandemic, face coverings and social distancing mandates will be followed. Jim was born in Galveston County, TX and raised in Clute, TX and has been a resident in this area for the last 36 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland. Jim loved his cat, Chewy, that he rescued from the drive-thru at CVS. He was a fantastic cook. He loved carpentry, was a “fixer”. He was an avid rock hound and was a member of the Gem and Mineral Society. He was a very talented craftsman and made beautiful hand cut stone jewelry, knife handles, and guitar picks. Jim was a lover of music, the Beatles being a personal favorite. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather who was always there for his family. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Francis Marion Polk, Sr., and step-father, James E. “Buddy” Harrell. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 25 years, Barbara Lynne Polk; his mother, Sadie Harrell; five children: James Ryan Polk, Adam Nicholas Polk, Lacie Marie (Andrew) Hope, Gennifer Lynne (Mack) Hankins, and Mary Frances (Kyle) Overstreet; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Francis (Sharon) Polk, Jr., and David Polk; nephew, Christopher Tyler (Laura) Callicoatte; and numerous other relatives and friends.
