Major James Vincent Maccarone, USMC, went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2026. He lived a full life as a son, brother, husband, father and grandfather to his family.

He was born in Newark, NJ on September 8, 1952, to Louis and Ann Maccarone. He graduated from Essex Catholic High School, attended the University of Mississippi on a ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation, he attended Officer Candidate School and served at Marine Headquarters in Quantico, VA. He continued his service to our country through the USMC at Camp Lejeune, NC until he was medically retired.

Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, he utilized his love of travel and business by opening his own travel agency, International Tours. While in Jacksonville, NC, he was an active member and deacon at First Baptist Church Jacksonville, and he also served on key committees in the New River Baptist Association. When an opportunity presented itself to use his leadership skills and serve his church, he became the administrator of the First Baptist Church Child Care Center.

He continued to dedicate his life to serving others when he moved to Mississippi in 2004 where he served in various administrative roles before ultimately retiring as the Division Director of Youth Services for MDHS in 2020. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Terry where he served as a deacon and most recently as a Trustee of the church. He could be seen leading the children’s message on various Sundays each year. His diagnosis of cancer – Acute Leukemia in March 2024 – never seemed to cause his faith to waiver. Cancer returned to an active state in April 2026, and he was ready to fight again. Jim also loved to read, cook, work with his hands, watch NCIS on TV, and facetime his grandchildren.

He is preceded by his parents, Louis and Ann Maccarone, and his wife of 42 years, Karen Maccarone. He leaves behind his children, Jennifer (husband, Josh Hardin), Rebecca (husband, Bryan Luebbert), and Stephen, and his brother Louis (wife, Jackye Maccarone). Additionally, he leaves behind four grandchildren, Ben and Grace Hardin, Elena Maccarone, and Barrett Luebbert.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
