James Marcus Kirby

Mr. James Marcus “Mark” Kirby passed away February 7, 2023, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson.  He was 71 years old.  He was one of three children born to James David Kirby and Dorothy Barnett of Philadelphia, MS.  A beloved member of Alta Woods Baptist Church of Jackson, Mr. Kirby taught Sunday School, held prayer meetings, and served on several committees at the church.  He was a Deacon and had a servant’s heart and was always willing to volunteer for any project that came up.  He was constantly reading and studying the Bible.  He carried out the scriptures in the way he lived his life.  His biggest joy came from spending time with his grandkids.  He retired from the Railroad after 39 years.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors and working in his yard. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rebecca Jean Kirby; and an aunt, Rebecca Barnett “Aunt Pug”.

Those left to cherish the memories are his wife of 53 years, Barbara Agard Kirby; two daughters, Amy Redus(Brandon) of Crystal Springs and Tiffany Luckey (Steve) of Mize; a brother, David Kirby (Debbie) of Bossier City, LA, and a sister, Donna Griffin (Joe) of Brandon.  Along with those are his beloved grandchildren, Brandi Redus, Jamie Redus, and Tanner Luckey, and a host of nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held for Mr. Kirby Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram.  A second visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:00 am until the time of service at 10:00 am at Alta Woods Baptist Church on Terry Road. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial.
